PE – Dance
During our Dance unit of work, 4M worked in pairs and groups to create Tutting movements (a street dance style based on angular movements).
We worked hard to plan each movement and make sure it could be performed in a count of 8.

Year 4 loved our Design Technology topic of ‘Battery Operated Lights.’ We made different types of circuits, including with a switch. Then designed our own light, taking careful consideration to audience and purpose.
Once our lights were built, we couldn’t wait to show them off.
As part of the design process pupils created mood boards to help focus their creativity. We collated ideas under the headings of places, colours, fabrics and people.
Our finished boards helped us create a colour scheme and keep us on track, just like real designers use.
As part of our Art topic Year 4 had lots of fun learning new skills including weaving, tie dye and sewing. Our final piece saw us combing those skills to sew a letter or shape onto a piece of tie-dyed fabric.
In Art this half term we have been studying the formal elements of art including sketching and shading. This week we focused on using wire and our knowledge of geometrical shapes to create a simple fish shape.
We followed an outline and used techniques such as twisting, turning and bending for our finished piece.
In Music, Year 4 have been enjoying learning about Abba and in particular their song ‘Mamma Mia.’ We have listened and appraised some tracks, learnt the lyrics and started to accompany it on the glockenspiels. This was one of our first attempts. Watch out Abba we’re after your pop crown!
During this half term Year 4 have loved taking part in different activities under the theme of ‘Orienteering.’ We have learnt about compass points, teamwork and improving their personal best.
This week in Science we have learnt about the different types of teeth and each of their functions. Pupils also discussed the importance of looking after our teeth, including brushing twice a day.
Then we worked in pairs to ‘play dentist’ and check each others teeth to see if we had any fillings, cavities or just beautiful bright teeth. Children completed a dental record and gave recommendations on how thier partner can look after their teeth. Lots of fun was had by all.
As part of our Science topic; Keeping Fit and Healthy, Year 4 learnt all about the digestive system. First, we discussed the stages food goes through when it enters the body then we investigated it using tights, weetabix, coke and plastic bags.
Pupils were both disgusted and enthralled to see the route it takes and how it eventually come out of our body!
Year 4 have been consolidating their understanding of place value and have been making 4 digit numbers using base tens.
Each child selected and then created their number. We are excited to work with thousands and soon we’ll be putting them into additions and subtractions.
