Welcome to Holy Family Catholic Primary School

Curriculum Rationale - Intent, Implementation and Impact

From the moment our children set foot through the Nursery, until the day they leave after a successful eight years of learning and growing together, we are keen for them to have the best possible foundations from which to mature.  At Holy Family we strive to provide all our children with stimulating, motivating and fun-filled activities. When children are happy and engaged, learning ensues ensuring firm foundations are laid.

We have an imaginative curriculum that has been designed in order to deliver a creative structure of learning that provides the children with a spiritual, emotional, mental, physical and social development throughout their primary school education. We also promote the value of a growth mindset and encourage our children to apply this to all learning opportunities.

Our school is structured around mixed year group classes due to our number on roll of 40 children per year group. To ensure consistency, challenge and support for all year groups our teachers plan in phase teams based around a two year topic cycle. For example, all children in Lower Key Stage 2 (Y3 and Y4) will cover a topic about the Romans. Although content will be similar, work set will be differentiated to allow for sufficient support and challenge for all pupils.

At Holy Family School, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum in our Reception Class and the National Primary Curriculum 2014 for Key Stages 1 and 2. At Holy Family School, our curriculum is the means for providing every child with good opportunities for enjoyment and achievement. Our curriculum fosters economic well being, improves learners’ health, keeps them safe and helps them make a positive contribution to the school and the community. The curriculum enables all learners to enjoy their education and ensures that wherever possible learning is fun. We are proud of the curriculum enhancements that we provide our children with. Staff organise school trips and visitors are invited into school in order to inspire and development our children’s knowledge, skills and understanding.

Holy Family school is a school that serves the community and we often participate in many events throughout the year including: charity days, community events, special assemblies, poetry days, art and design technology days etc. Children participate in locally organised sporting events and performance activities held in our local secondary schools.

Children’s work and achievement within the curriculum is always celebrated and displayed to enable it to make a significant impact on the visual appearance of the school and to contribute positively to its ethos. The use of our school website, Twitter and Parent App is used at every opportunity to highlight children’s achievement.

The exciting curriculum that we provide helps children to understand who they are and where they live. It helps them learn about their community, the nation and the world in which they live. It deepens their cultural awareness and increases their understanding of history, time and place. Through our curriculum, the children will develop an understanding of their own faith and develop a respect for and an understanding of different cultures and beliefs. They learn about issues facing the world and the importance of caring for their environment.
