Reading for Pleasure
We love reading in Reception! Whether it is one of our Reception recommended reads, topic books, traditional tales or a book from our reading area, we love nothing better than to curl up with a friend and share a good book!

Our Literacy Tree focus book was ‘The Tiny Seed’, by Eric Carle. Following a simple set of instructions, we planted our very own tiny sunflower seeds. We talked about how we can help our tiny sunflower seed to grow, and what will help it – soil, water and sunlight. We are watering our tiny seeds every day and can already see tiny shoots starting to grow!
We have begun to plant our vegetable seeds in our Foundation Stage vegetable garden. This year, as well as our strawberry, raspberry and blackberry plants, we have planted new carrot seeds, onions and broad beans. We are planning to plant more potatoes, peppers, pumpkins and radishes too! We are so good at tending to our vegetable patch, making sure it is watered every day, and we were amazed to see the onions beginning to grow after our Easter holidays!
Following the children’s interests when learning about people who help us, we set up a Doctors Practise within our Classroom. The Children have had lots of fun role-playing different scenarios.
Year 3/4ON had a fabulous experience on their Roman Day at the Grosvenor Museum in Chester.
The children enjoyed walking around the Roman Galleries discovering why the Romans came to Britain and looking at real and replica artefacts. The children had great fun when they marched through Chester City Centre to the amphitheatre to receive their Formations Training.
