Meeting Knowsley Road Safety Team

Our School Council alongside Mr Quigley met with two members from the Knowsley Road Safety team to discuss the issue of parking and driving around schools in the UK. The key theme was Education. We have a very strong Road Safety curriculum in school and each year group follows the Road Safety Education scheme from Knowsley and in recent years we have worked very closely with the Knowsley Road Safety Education officers as well. In fact they have praised us for being one of the best schools who implement this important message.

During the meeting, we learned that adults go over and beyond with safety measures at home when keeping children safe such as locking medicines away from young children, installing stair gates so children don’t fall, being safe when cooking etc but yet when adults go out on the road, we learned that some don’t behave in a safe manner such as not wearing a seat belt, speeding, eating behind the wheel, putting make up on and/or using a mobile phone even when their own children are in the car too! The School Council received some excellent advice and will be carrying out a few of the actions in educating not only pupils, but parents as well, on the importance of Road Safety.
